Half Past Forever
It's been a busy week for Chris Sligh and his Half Past Forever band mates. So much has happened, Chris made it through audition after audition, and last night he sang his heart out for America and America loved him! Fans have been clamoring to know more about Chris and his life before American Idol.
Chris-Sligh.Info has talked to Adam Fisher (lead guitarist) and Cole Edmonson (bassist) who were in the band Half Past Forever with Chris Sligh, immediately prior to Chris becoming a contender for American Idol.
Adam and Cole, along with a whole gaggle of friends, watched last nights show at ChrisSligh.com administrator, Don Chapman's, home near Greenville, SC.
Adam Fisher
"Chris is the MAN. He worked the crowd and got people moving! America is even more in love with him now. Something about watching the chubby guy dance on stage is exciting." says Adam Fisher, lead guitarist of HPF.
When asked how Chris being a contestant on American Idol has affected the success of the band and him personally, Cole Edmonson, bassist, said, "Hopefully it will continue to help with publicity. It really hasn't affected me all that much YET other than I have to hit "accept friend" a lot more on the halfpastforever myspace.”
Cole takes a practical view of what would happen to the band if Chris wins or loses AI, "If he loses the band will continue to make great music and tour. If he wins, no one will know what happens until it happens."
Half Past Forever is an original contemporary rock band with pop influences, and they will literally knock your socks off. They have been together since spring of 2006 and demos of the bands songs can be found at PumpVolume.Com. All the songs are original and most are written and sung by Chris Sligh.
The band has a distinctive sound, reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World and John Mayer.
Cole Edmonson
Cole Edmonson's personal musical influences include Jimi Hendrix and Derrick Trucks.
Adam Fisher says his influences are MuteMath, Incubus, Jimmy Eat World, Audioslave, Delirious, John Mayer Trio, Wes Montgomery, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Eric Clapton. Some of the influences for HPF include The Fray, Mute Math, Switchfoot, Need to Breathe, and Jimmy Eat World.
The band members still talk to Chris off and on, "AI keeps a pretty tight watch on the show for obvious reasons, but it is not like Chris is in prison and gets one 45 second phone call behind glass." Says Cole Edmonson.
Adam Fisher commented on speaking with Chris now that he's in the top 24, "We know what the rest of America knows. He might call on the phone, but it’s not like we get an extra inside scoop or anything."
Before Chris's American Idol fame, the band HPF, were a popular, local band in Greenville South Carolina. "We have played anything from a medium sized concert venue with 300 people to a crap hole bar with 8 people in the audience. (ps...1 was my Dad, 1 was the bartender, and the other 6 were the first band) We have also played some Christian venues." says Cole Edmonson.
Adam tells a funny story about Chris wearing a terry-cloth sweat band on his head during one show at a Church. Adam says, "He wore the stupid thing the whole gig against the band’s warnings of venturing into not-so-cool-territory. Kinda looked like a chubby Richard Simmons. God help us (and God help us in the future if he ever tries to wear the dreadful thing ever again)!"
About the bands style, Adam says the band likes to "Rock the vibe.". Their newest album will be released sometime around March 8th, the download will be available on or around February 27th from ChrisSlighStore.com . They are already selling some great looking T-shirts.
