Update: The owner of the Secret Blog has now turned the blog into a Sanjaya Secret Blog......I don't know why, but it's a little odd, and just wanted to mention it.
We're sure many of you have seen and wondered about The Secret Blog of Chris Sligh. If you haven't read the blog, you should check it out before moving on to the interview below.
Recently We've been reading a lot of questions about the blog. People have wondered if the blog is actually run by Chris Sligh, it isn't.
We here at Chris-Sligh.info have known and talked to the Secret Blogger behind the Secret Blog for some time now, as has anyone who reads the American Idol boards. He's a fan, and we recently sent him a group of questions to answer, so that everyone can get to know him a bit better!
If you are seeing this interview from the front page of the website, click 'Read More' to continue on to the interview.
Q: First off, are you or have you ever been....Chris Sligh?
A: It's really the opposite--I never used to be Chris Sligh, but I am now. You could say, "I am not a doctor, but I play one on TV." You could also say, "I am not Chris Sligh, but I play Chris Sligh when I write my Secret Blog." But that would not tell the whole story.
I am Chris Sligh, or at least his alter ego. He knows I am, but there is absolutely no communication between us. It is like there is this porous wall that separates us, because of strict American Idol rules. But Chris' persona, his inspiration and his energy filter through the wall and penetrate my heart and mind. I become Chris Sligh. I think as he thinks, feel as he feels, and write as he writes--at least in my own imagination.
Q: If you are not exactly Chris Sligh, then who are you?
A: I am a champion of lesser known musical artists who I believe should be better known. I am a writer. I am a Christian. I am a believer and supporter of family entertainment, especially interactive entertainment like American Idol.
Q: I understand that your blog has caused quite an uproar lately! What is your take on that?
A: I'm not aware of any uproar. I wish my blog would cause more of an uproar, but not in any hurtful way. I started out trying to portray Chris' wit and sarcasm; but I ended up feeling Chris' heart—his love for his wife, his desire to be kind to others, his humility. And my writing turned from sarcasm to kindness. He has had a supernal affect on me, and I can't shake it now. I can't offer cutting edge humor any more, so the uproar may die down, and I will probably return to oblivion.
Q: As we understand it, your blog has been reported to AI as being the actual blog of Chris Sligh, who isn't allowed internet interactivity at this time according to AI rules. Has this caused trouble for you? Or have you just enjoyed the attention?
A: There has been no trouble for me. And I am concerned about all the attention. I would not write this blog if Chris wanted me to end it. I do it for him because I believe in him and his music. I don't want more attention unless it helps him.
Q: What inspired you to create your blog? When did you start it?
A: I knew Chris was the one to beat before he even showed up on American Idol. I registered www.chris-sligh.com and www.fropatro.com for his Secret Blog, but those domain names are always available to him for free if he wants them.
I was the first person to write to Chris on his own blog to offer my support. I was the first person to take his "fro patro" concept and build it on the official American Idol boards. I am "chris-sligh" on those boards and pushed to have the fro patro threads get started. There was considerable consternation at first because people did not want to confuse him with Taylor Hicks. But I knew that Chris wanted to have his fro patro. In many ways, Chris is the Taylor Hicks of this competition anyway.
Q: Your blog has been misunderstood in the past, so I'd like to hear, in your own words, what you want to convey with your blog.
A: Initially I just wanted to find a way to participate in the America Idol experience by building a following for my guy Sligh. I wanted it to be funny and ridiculous. I don't know what to do now, because I have really become Chris, and yet I have no business being Chris. I don't speak for him, I don't know him deeply. I really don't know what to do.
Q: Obviously, a lot of fans believe you ARE Chris. Were you surprised by this when it first happened?
A: Yes. And it made me very nervous. I feel badly if I have led people astray and have disappoint them. I thought my blog would be so ridiculous that others would know this is just a silly fake blog. I am sorry to Chris' fans who thought that literally, rather than figuratively, I was Chris. I have worried and felt responsible for everything I have said and done on the blog.
Q: Do you have a fro yourself?
A: No, I don't; but I try to maintain my chubbiness at all times.
Chris-Sligh.info would like to thank the Secret Blogger for the wonderful interview!! Be sure to check out The Secret Blog of Chris Sligh for more fun times and insightful ramblings!
