The Secret Blog of Chris Sligh PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator

Written by Marina Bridges and Kay Daniels

Update: The owner of the Secret Blog has now turned the blog into a Sanjaya Secret Blog......I don't know why, but it's a little odd, and just wanted to mention it.

ImageWe're sure many of you have seen and wondered about The Secret Blog of Chris Sligh.  If you haven't read the blog, you should check it out before moving on to the interview below.

Recently We've been reading a lot of questions about the blog.  People have wondered if the blog is actually run by Chris Sligh, it isn't.

We here at Chris-Sligh.info have known and talked to the Secret Blogger behind the Secret Blog for some time now, as has anyone who reads the American Idol boards.  He's a fan, and we recently sent him a group of questions to answer, so that everyone can get to know him a bit better!

If you are seeing this interview from the front page of the website, click 'Read More' to continue on to the interview.

Q: First off, are you or have you ever been....Chris Sligh?

A: It's really the opposite--I never used to be Chris Sligh, but I am now.  You could say, "I am not a doctor, but I play one on TV."   You could also say, "I am not Chris Sligh, but I play Chris Sligh when I write my Secret Blog."  But that would not tell the whole story.

I am Chris Sligh, or at least his alter ego.  He knows I am, but there is absolutely no communication between us.   It is like there is this porous wall that separates us, because of strict American Idol rules. But Chris' persona, his inspiration and his energy filter through the wall and penetrate my heart and mind.   I become Chris Sligh.  I think as he thinks, feel as he feels, and write as he writes--at least in my own imagination.

Q: If you are not exactly Chris Sligh, then who are you?

A: I am a champion of lesser known musical artists who I believe should be better known.  I am a writer.   I am a Christian.  I am a believer and supporter of family entertainment, especially interactive entertainment like American Idol.

Q: I understand that your blog has caused quite an uproar lately!  What is your take on that?

A: I'm not aware of any uproar.  I wish my blog would cause more of an uproar, but not in any hurtful way.   I started out trying to portray Chris' wit and sarcasm; but I ended up feeling Chris' heart—his love for his wife, his desire to be kind to others, his humility.   And my writing turned from sarcasm to kindness.  He has had a supernal affect on me, and I can't shake it now.  I can't offer cutting edge humor any more, so the uproar may die down, and I will probably return to oblivion.

Q: As we understand it, your blog has been reported to AI as being the actual blog of Chris Sligh, who isn't allowed internet interactivity at this time according to AI rules.   Has this caused trouble for you?  Or have you just enjoyed the attention?

A: There has been no trouble for me.  And I am concerned about all the attention.   I would not write this blog if Chris wanted me to end it.  I do it for him because I believe in him and his music.  I don't want more attention unless it helps him.

Q: What inspired you to create your blog?  When did you start it?

A: I knew Chris was the one to beat before he even showed up on American Idol.  I registered www.chris-sligh.com and www.fropatro.com for his Secret Blog, but those domain names are always available to him for free if he wants them.

I was the first person to write to Chris on his own blog to offer my support.  I was the first person to take his "fro patro" concept and build it on the official American Idol boards.  I am "chris-sligh" on those boards and pushed to have the fro patro threads get started.  There was considerable consternation at first because people did not want to confuse him with Taylor Hicks.   But I knew that Chris wanted to have his fro patro.  In many ways, Chris is the Taylor Hicks of this competition anyway.

Q: Your blog has been misunderstood in the past, so I'd like to hear, in your own words, what you want to convey with your blog.

A: Initially I just wanted to find a way to participate in the America Idol experience by building a following for my guy Sligh.   I wanted it to be funny and ridiculous.  I don't know what to do now, because I have really become Chris, and yet I have no business being Chris.   I don't speak for him, I don't know him deeply.  I really don't know what to do.

Q: Obviously, a lot of fans believe you ARE Chris.  Were you surprised by this when it first happened?

A: Yes.  And it made me very nervous.  I feel badly if I have led people astray and have disappoint them.   I thought my blog would be so ridiculous that others would know this is just a silly fake blog.  I am sorry to Chris' fans who thought that literally, rather than figuratively, I was Chris.   I have worried and felt responsible for everything I have said and done on the blog.

Q: Do you have a fro yourself?

A: No, I don't; but I try to maintain my chubbiness at all times.

Chris-Sligh.info would like to thank the Secret Blogger for the wonderful interview!!  Be sure to check out The Secret Blog of Chris Sligh for more fun times and insightful ramblings!

to "a fan", it's not me. Way too clever for my small brain. I think the guy is extremely smart and would love to have him show up at one of our "Fro Patro'" parties. By the way all you Chris-Sligh.INFO folks, the party of the year...so far, is still happening at the Embassy Suites in Greenville, S.C., every Tuesday. We are having a blast supporting our guy Sligh and would enjoy the company of other fans and friends. Go to the links page on this wonderful website and see some of the live shots from Fox 21 locally at their link foxcarolina.com or Fox 5 in Atlanta @ myfoxatlanta.com. We are averaging about 75 people a week at these parties. Flying to California is way too expensive to get a glimpse of Chris, why not come to Greenville? Make Tuesdays your Friday and take Wednesday as Saturday. The Embassy offers GREAT breakfast made to order and buffet style and the party the night before is off the hook. You'll meet lots of Chris' friends from Greenville and watch as we root him on. He loves the Fro Patro' and looks forward to seeing the replays of the News each week. Like the banner says, "Ride the SLIGHdol wave" with us in Chris' hometown.
Does Chris know about this site? AH, YES!!! He loves the site and so does Don the host of Chrissligh.com. Sarah does too. You guys have to get more people to vote, Vote, VOte, VOTe, VOTE!!! The lines are open for 2 hours and most of you including his own band guys admit to voting about 4 to 10 times each night. WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 2 hours a week voting for the best person in the competition is nothing. He is the best best person, no doubt, great friend, brother, husband, etc. One of the finest people I have ever known. And can he SING? VOTE till your batteries die and then charge them for a few minutes and keep voting. Howard Stern and others want to mess up the whole process, DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN, VOTE FOR SLIGH AND MAKE SURE EVERYONE YOU KNOW DOES THE SAME!!!!
THIS IS A GREAT SITE. Thanks STEVE-O.

Thanks for telling us about the Secret Blog of Chris Sligh. I was worried it was for real and that Chris would get into trouble. It really has captured his personality and faith. Thanks for interviewing the Secret Blogger to clarify things.

I've noticed this year that there are so many intimate experiences that a fan of Chris can have with him--this is a great blog for that; his relatives have blogs, his pastor has a blog; and now Chris has his "Secret Blog" through his "alter ego." Usually fans are far removed from their Idol. This year, this blog and all the other blogs have offered fans a real connection with Chris. Thanks!

Any west coasters reading? Why aren't you voting? I'm on the east coast here and I spent the WHOLE 2 HOURS dialing my fingers off for him. Got in hundreds of votes with hardly no busy signals. He needs the help right now.

I'm Sarah's cousin Tara, and I have a blog! smilies/wink.gif I happen to portray myself, and since I'm not prohibited from blogging like Chris is, I have that liberty. smilies/smiley.gif www.myspace.com/taralynn819

I have to admit, though, that I haven't voted once. First off, we don't own a tv, so I wouldn't know what number to punch. The main reason I don't vote, however, is because I think Chris has gotten enough exposure to take him wherever his God-given dreams want to take him. If he wins AI, then he has to resort to AI's dreams, and I KNOW they aren't God-given! smilies/smiley.gif The reason I would like him to stay for now is just cause it's fun to flip on YouTube Wednesday morning to watch his performance. (My favorite was "Trouble.") But now the contest is beginning to wind down, and this might be a great time for Chris to get out and run with his own style! Yet he seems to express that he wants to go all the way, and that's his choice. I just wonder if he will have less freedom if he wins? I don't know all the ins & outs of AI; just speculating.

I'll just say it's been interesting to see relatives on National television! It's caused a lot of good discussion within my Christian extended family, on the whole Hollywood thing. Plus I hear my Grandma never misses an episode, and before this she never listened to anything but hymns! I think that's hilarious!

I think even though I'm biased since Chris married my cousin, I would have picked him as a favorite because he's really got an amazing voice! And his sense of humor reminds us of a couple of good friends of ours. Everybody ought to have friends who make you laugh like that. They are the ones who find the funny in things too ordinary for most of us to notice. We simply take life too seriously most of the time! smilies/smiley.gif

I went to school with chris, he is a self-righteous prick who didn't deserve to make it anywhere in life, let alone onto national television. He got what he deserved on Tuesday!!!!! I actually cheered for the first time ever while watching Idol last night!!!

Chris you were not going to win, because you look too much like Jack Osborne. One of those is enough. And sanja (Ha-Ha) No way you are going to win. If you do it will be the last of American Idol as we know it. The only reason you are still on is because you are the biggest joke since Steven Hong. Enjoy your 15 minutes and get off my television.

U are still the man Chris. I pity the nasty note writer and former high school mate who can't be happy for you. I can't think of anyone from high school I wouldn't be happy for becoming successful and happy loving what they do. But of course high school was a long time ago for me. (Think Styx and Boston) Age has it's benefits! Peace and blessings and success from an Old Rocker Grandma!
